I, Mike Brown, am 36 with a wonderful wife, 3 boys and 2 girls - a “full house” - a winning poker hand.  Though born LDS, I am converted more each day to everything LDS through praying, pondering, searching, and living it - “brainwashed” as mockers in the Building say of those at the Tree.

I hope to unify God, science, reason, and faith in my mind and heart.  I hope to discover some “right answers” to challenging inquiries, just because.  I hope to identify practical solutions to perplexing problems, partially in hope of contributing to improvement, but mostly just to satisfy my curiousity.  Yes, I want to solve the world’s problems, at least in my mind.

While there is no “God’s party” to vote for, I believe that freedom to choose, personal responsibility, and other conservative ideals are reflective of “Christ’s Plan”.  In my mind, socialism, liberalism, communism, nazism, jihadism, are all variations of Lucifer’s plan: “Make people choose the right - our group decides what’s right - we want the glory”.  My posts and essays reflect that.  I don’t buy into anyone else’s “party” hook, line, and sinker.  I’m just me.  I think what I think, and if anyone can out think me, I’m happy to change to a new line of thinking.

I graduated from BYU in 97 with a Master’s in Civil Engineering.  I live in Bountiful and work in Salt Lake as an urban planner - specializing in forecasting the spatial distribution of future populations, the demands on the roads they will likely require, and their potential use of other options such as light rail.  I played a substantial role in securing funding for several of the local train projects, and have been influential in other major infrastructure decisions.  I thrill every day that I get paid good money doing something I love - planning cities! 

I dream of someday sitting in the back of a room and having the Lord Himself call on me to be part of the committee to design the New Jerusalem, and I strive to learn all I can about what it takes to have a beautiful, functional, modern city so that someday I may be eligible and worthy for such a grand task!

A major purpose for these writings has little to do with you, and a lot to do with me just needing a place to explore the complex recesses of my soul.  And in the event that kids ever care about what their parents think, I want my kids to know what their dad enjoys thinking about in his spare time.

I enjoy searching for truth with all the resources God has provided. While I’m no scholar or master of apologetics, I do hope what I write here is supported by doctrine and not offensive to Church policy. If someone shows me something I’ve written that is in fact in error or offensive, I’m happy to retract because I’m just shooting from the hip anyway.  I just enjoy honest soul searching for what my whole being (doctrinal, spiritual, political, creative, and intellectual) has to tell me on a host of topics I think are worth sharing.
